A public glossary of refusals
Some formulas are wrong, not “sensitive”. We refuse them on the site. The list is short, so it can be kept. If you see one of ours, it is a mistake to flag, not a style.
People
“Russians of the Delta” for Lipovans: the identity is Lipovan; the language is Russian. “Volga Tatars” or Tatarstan for Crimean Tatars: they are qırımtatarlar, settled here in waves, not a delegation from the Volga. “Gypsies” for Roma or Horahane: no. “Macedonians” for Aromanians: no.
Places and tone
“Exotic border” at Chilia or Periprava. “Human zoo” at a Lipovan village. “Discover the magic”. Boat or museum hours we have not checked. A GPS pin on a nest or on a yard with a net.
Languages
A DeepL clone passed off as a native voice. Gagauz in the menu, with no speaker. An invented endonym to look the part. The page on what does not get translated holds the names; the page on what we do not publish holds the frame.
