History
At berths 17 and 18 stand the silos begun in 1904–1909 after the engineering of Anghel Saligny and the architecture of Petre Antonescu. Carol I inaugurated the first two in 1909; the third came in 1924, after the First World War. Each tower rises toward 45 metres and, together, they held tens of thousands of tonnes of grain (on the order of 30,000).
The system of belts and cells made Constanța an export head, not just a fishing port. From the breakwater the volumes look like a concrete fortress; up close, the narrow windows and the rhythm of the pilasters.
The best angle is from the quay or from a boat ride in the roads. The port has rules: stay on the permitted routes.
