The northern coast
Constanța, Mamaia, Năvodari - urban, port, royal.

The northern coast, in full
The northern coastline is the urban seafront Dobrogean: Constanța with the port and ancient ruins, Mamaia with its royal beach, Năvodari and Lake Tașaul on the border between the sea and the steppe. This is where most of the coastal population is concentrated and the infrastructure that connects Romania to Black Sea.
Here mass tourism mixes with the history of Tomis, with the seafront, with the commercial port and with resorts born for families and spa treatments. Constanța is not only a summer destination: the port works all year round, the university and the museums give life to the city in winter as well.
On the waterfront, the Art Nouveau Casino and the Carol I Mosque stand face to face as a symbol of Dobrogean coexistence. Under the modern boulevards, the Roman Mosaic Building and the walls of the Tomis come to light at every archaeological site.
The north of the coast is also the gateway to the lagoon: Siutghiol separates Mamaia from Constanța, and towards Năvodari Lake Tașaul brings fresh-salt water and migratory birds a few minutes from the beach.

Landmarks of the region
Ovidiu Square and the remains of Tomis
The heart of ancient Tomis, where Ovidius lived out his exile.
Ovidiu Square preserves the plan of the old Roman forum, and the statue of the poet dominates the center. Surroundings: ancient walls, the Roman Mosaic Building - one of the largest Roman commercial complexes in Europe - and the National History and Archeology Museum, with the Tomisian treasury.
Ovidius writes "Tristele" and "Ponticele" in exile from Tomis.
The Roman Mosaic Building is being built, with terraces facing the port.
The old center of Constanta, accessible on foot from the seafront.
Mamaia
The most famous Romanian resort, between the sea and Siutghiol.
The long beach of fine sand, the promenade with terraces and clubs, the water park and the connection to the Siutghiol lake make Mamaia the classic destination for Romanian families. Winter is quiet; summer is the busiest sector of the coast.
The resort opens as a royal bathing destination.
The big hotels on the main boulevard are being built.
Beach, nightlife and water sports throughout the summer.
Port of Constanța
The largest port on the Black Sea, the maritime gateway of Romania.
On more than 3,900 hectares, the port connects Central Europe with the rest of the world through the Danube-Mare corridor. From the cliff you can see the silhouettes of the cranes; from the Tomis Port area, organized tours can be made to the docks and the passenger terminal.
Work begins on the modern port under Anghel Saligny.
Official inauguration in the presence of King Carol I.
The region's main grain export gateway.
Lake Siutghiol
Salt lagoon on the border between Constanța and Mamaia.
The lakeside is ideal for sunset walks, boating and waterfowl watching. The resorts on Siutghiol offer quieter accommodation than the main beach, minutes from the centre.
Siutghiol becomes a holiday district of Constanta.
Promenade, sunsets and direct connection to Mamaia.
