History
After 1878, Carol I asked for a new place of worship for the Muslim community in Constanța. Between 1910 and 1912 today's mosque was built, on the site of the Mahmudia Mosque. The dome uses Albești stone, and the model looks toward Konya, in Anatolia.
The minaret is about 47 metres high. From the gallery, on visiting days, you see the harbour and the old town. Inside the hall it is cool: carpet, a mihrab facing Mecca.
Go in the morning or late afternoon, when groups are fewer. Shoulders covered, shoes off, avoid Friday prayer time if you only want to look around.
