History
The Dobruja Gorges cut the limestone plateau between Târgușor and Cheia: a short valley, with white walls, caves and steppe vegetation. They are not the Alps, but for Dobruja they are one of the few places where the relief rises and narrows at once.
On the slopes stand Saint John Cassian Monastery, Bănuții Dobrogei and several grottos, some closed to research. The road is partly stone; in summer it is hot, without shade. Shoes, water, a hat. Do not climb the friable faces and do not enter unmarked caves.
Half a day is enough: the gorges, Cassian, a halt at Colilia if you want monastery quiet. Autumn has the cleanest light on the limestone.
