History
Bănuții Dobrogei are stacks of limestone in the Dobruja Gorges, near Târgușor: superimposed discs and slabs that, from afar, look like giant coins set one on another. They are a play of erosion, not a construction.
You arrive from the village, on stone roads and short paths. You do not need climbing gear, but field shoes, water and a hat are useful; in summer the rock heats up. Stay on the path: the steppe flora is fragile, and climbing the “coins” breaks them.
The place ties to Saint John Cassian Monastery and to the caves in the gorges. A halt of an hour, not a destination for a whole day.
