History
On Casienilor Hill, in the village of Adâncata in Târgușor commune, some 11 km from Mihail Kogălniceanu, the cobbled road climbs toward grottos and hermitage caves. The 2003 monastery reopened a place tied to John Cassian, to Germanus the Roman and to Bishop Theotimos - names of the fourth and fifth centuries, not a guide's inventions.
The foundation stone and the bodies of 2005-2007 bear the mark of Protosyncellus Iustin Petre, come from Petru Vodă. An older church, from 1912, stands in the village story as a witness that the hill was not empty.
Go on, if you can, toward the Cave of Saint John Cassian and toward Pietrele Scrise, on the same climb. Mountain shoes, water, church clothes in the rucksack. In summer it is dry and slippery on the limestone; in winter do not climb on ice.
