History
In 1899 the architect Grigore Cerchez drew for Prince Mihail Suțu a villa on the seashore, with Levant air: arcades, decorations that point to Damascus and Aleppo, a tower you see from far off. Suțu was a man of science and salon, not a grain merchant; the house had to show that.
Through the twentieth century — including in the Second World War — the building changed uses and lost some of the original furniture. The tower remains the landmark: from the cliff you recognize it before you read the plaque.
Do not enter the property if it is closed; the good route is along the shore, with the Casino and Cape Midia as horizon. In the evening the lights on the tower are worth a photograph, without flash into inhabited windows.
