History
Between Slava Rusă and Slava Cercheză stretches, over some 24 hectares, the largest Dobrogean fortification researched: more extensive than Histria, Tomis or Callatis at their peak. It lived intensely between the fourth and seventh centuries, at the end of the Roman age and the Byzantine beginning; then the traces thin until the Middle Ages.
The excavations have also brought out older layers: Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze. The gates, the towers and the line of the wall can be read on the ground if you have a sketch; otherwise you see only undulations and stone. Bring water, field shoes and do not count on a site museum.
The villages below, of the Old Rite, are worth a stop on the way back. Spring is the best; in summer the grass is high and the ticks work.
