History
At Slava Rusă, on the valley of the Slava stream (formerly Başpunar), in the Babadag Hills, stands the only Old Rite monks' monastery in Romania. It also belongs to the episcopal see of the Slava Eparchy, of the Russian Old Rite Orthodox Church - the Lipovans. It was settled at the end of the seventeenth century, around 1680, by families come from Russia; 1769 is a year of rebuilding mentioned in the records.
The architecture is of wood and porch, other than that of Romanian masonry monasteries. The services keep the old order, the old calendar, the sign of the cross with two fingers. Enter only if you are received, dress covered, do not photograph in church without a blessing.
The village is worth a turn: painted houses, wells, another world than the coast. From here you can go to Slava Cercheză or back toward Babadag.
