History
Leave Babadag on the forest tracks and, in a few minutes, you are on the Babadag Plateau: limestones, clearings and stands of oak. The wood is part of the nature reserve and of the Natura 2000 sites delimited after 2000. Access is simple from town, but the interior remains something to walk.
The relief alternates bare rock with dense shade. In spring rare sub-Mediterranean vegetation for Romania comes into flower; in autumn oak leaves dry the paths and steps can be heard from far off. It is a good place to go with children if you keep the route short and avoid the edges of scree.
Do not look for cabins or toilets in the wood. Bring water from town, keep to marked tracks, and get off the bicycle on stretches of broken limestone. After rain, the clay on the paths slips.
