History
Beside Tropaeum Traiani, the altar at Adamclisi was raised at the beginning of the second century, in Trajan’s time, for the soldiers who fell in the battles in Dobrogea. It is not a temple for services, but a funerary and memorial monument, with inscriptions that keep the tally of the dead.
The stone is sober, without the metopes of the monument beside it. It is worth reading together with the trophy: one shows the victory, the other the names of those who paid for it. If you come with children, explain the difference before you run among the ruins.
You park at the complex at Adamclisi and do everything on foot. In summer there is no shade. Bring water and allow an hour for the fortress, the altar and the museum beside the monument.
