Royal Footbridge in Mamaia

The beach season has closed (after 15 September). On the coast it is autumn/cold: promenade, museums, towns. Not bathing weather. Lifeguard, showers and sunbeds — only in the bathing season (1 June–15 September).

History

The pier that led from the casino toward the water was built with it, in 1934–1935, and opened on the same 15 August 1935, before Carol II. Victor Ștefănescu designed it as an extension of the dance hall: you stepped out in evening shoes, not through the dunes.

The beach-widening works of 2020–2021 have covered it, in places, with sand. The route can still be guessed: a straight line toward the sea, beside Queen Marie’s Castle and the rest of the Mamaia ensemble, conceived then as a resort of European calibre.

Look for it down at sand level, not on the map as a high bridge. After a storm the concrete shows better.
