Queen Marie's House (Bar Orient Complex, Mamaia)
The beach season has closed (after 15 September). On the coast it is autumn/cold: promenade, museums, towns. Not bathing weather. Lifeguard, showers and sunbeds — only in the bathing season (1 June–15 September).
History
Queen Marie built herself in Mamaia, in 1927-1928, a white single-storey house, a porch toward the water and a small minaret. The plans were worked by the architect Dobrescu, close to Mario Stoppa. She herself describes it as an open house, from which you heard only the sea.
After nationalisation it became a bar and restaurant - Orient, then Unirea - and passed from hand to hand, including through a firm on the coast. In 2023 the Constanța County Directorate for Culture, under the Ministry of Culture, took up again the discussion of the building's state.
You recognise it by the low porch, close to the sand, not by a museum fence. It is worth a stop on foot, between the beach and the old villas, to see how small the place is against the hotels around it.
