History
On a hill above the Danube, near Canlia, the monastery took shape in the interwar years around stone crosses and a spring that the villages of Ostrov had held dear for generations. Pilgrims come for the water and the four crosses, not for a spectacular ensemble.
The masonry church dates from the 1930s. In the communist period monastic life was interrupted and resumed after 1990. Today it is a working complex, with cells and an access road from DN3.
From Constanța allow about an hour and a half. From the car park to the spring it is a short path, sometimes muddy. On Sundays, especially in summer, it is crowded.
