History
The village in Limanu commune was founded in 1824, most likely by Crimean Tatars coming from the Crimean Peninsula after the Khanate fell under the Russian Empire, in 1783. The old name, Hagilar, says the same as the stones in the cemetery: families of pilgrims, orientation toward the Kaaba, a mosque as a place of gathering, not as an album monument.
Today's place of worship, rebuilt around 1903 and again around 1930, is a low building, with a discreet minaret, still in use. If you catch an hour of prayer, wait outside. Take off your shoes at the threshold, keep your shoulders covered and do not photograph people without asking. From here you can leave toward the forest, toward Balta Limanu or back to Mangalia, in 15-20 minutes by car.
