Muslim Cemetery in Tătaru village
History
In the village of Tătaru, the cemetery on the slope is the place where the local Muslim community has buried its dead for generations. Dobrogea has held Tatars since the fifteenth century; the stones here, with inscriptions and simple forms, hold that continuity in mind, not a particular event.
It is not an open-air museum. Go in silence, stay on the path, do not move objects. The village is small: ask a local for the way, leave the car below and climb on foot. If you make a circuit of mosques and cemeteries in the south of Constanța County, keep Tătaru as a short halt, not as a day's destination.
