History
Monument Hill in Tulcea covers the fortress of Aegyssus. The name is Celtic; Ovid, from his exile at Tomis, mentions it as an old town attacked by the Getae. The Romans held the place from the 2nd century into the 6th–7th centuries.
On the slopes you can still see walls and terraces. The museum in the park explains what has been excavated. From the top you have the whole town and the arm of the Danube.
The walk up from the promenade takes 15–20 minutes. Go in the evening, when it is cool and the view is clear.
