Laskaridis House

History

On Nicolae Titulescu Street, the house raised in 1924 for the Laskaridis family shows how the Greek elite of the port lived in the years after the war. The plan belonged to the architect N.G. Parlos: regular façades, classical lines, aligned windows, far from the baroque ornament on neighbouring streets.

Lascăr Laskaridis and his people belonged to a community that kept schools, churches and trading firms. The house is not a museum, but the façade reads easily from the pavement: a solid plinth, a representative floor, a discreet roof.

Combine it with the other dwellings on the same artery. In two hundred metres you see how Greeks, Armenians and Romanian merchants built, in the same decade, very different images of a “good house” by the sea.
