Eforie, in brief
Eforie is the resort set on the strip of land between the Black Sea and Lake Techirghiol, famous for its sapropelic mud with therapeutic properties. The name comes from the Bucharest Civil Hospitals Board, which built the first sanatorium here in 1894.
Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud, united today in a single city, were among the first modern resorts on the Romanian seaside: elegant interwar villas, cold and warm baths, seafront promenades with views of the sea.
Balneology remains the soul of the place: thousands of people come each year for treatments with Techirghiol mud, and the wide beaches and proximity to Constanța make Eforie one of the most beloved family destinations.

Lake Techirghiol
Salt lake with therapeutic sapropelic mud, unique in Romania.
The saltiest lake in Romania, several times saltier than the sea, with sapropelic mud recognised for treating rheumatic conditions. Legend says the blind old man Techir regained his sight after his donkey got stuck in the lake mud.
