History
A few metres wide, a short length and houses pressed against one another: that is Wind Street, a discreet link through the old quarter of Constanța. It is not a boulevard and has no promenade shopfronts; you pass among façades from the beginning of the twentieth century, with narrow windows and courtyards hidden behind gates.
The name fits: the air from the sea is channelled here and, in the evening, you hear footsteps and doors more than traffic. It is a good place to cut through between the busier streets of the peninsula, if you want to see how the urban fabric looked before the blocks.
Photograph the plaster details and the wrought iron, but do not expect explanatory plaques at every house. The lane is read as you walk, comparing what has been kept with what has been renovated without mercy.
