2 Mai–Vama Veche Marine Reserve
The beach season has closed (after 15 September). On the coast it is autumn/cold: promenade, museums, towns. Not bathing weather. Lifeguard, showers and sunbeds — only in the bathing season (1 June–15 September).
History
Between 2 Mai and the Bulgarian border, the waters at Vama Veche cover some 5,000 hectares: 7 km of coast, down to the 40-metre isobath. Protection began in the 1980s, through decisions of the Constanța County Council, and settled in law around 2000, then as a Natura 2000 site (ROSCI).
On the seabed lie rock habitats, seagrasses, turbot, seahorses — species that do not love propellers and anchors dropped at random. Diving is done under rules; fishing has zones and seasons. If you stay at 2 Mai or at Vama, swim from the known beaches, not from every rocky cove.
Check the reserve notices before a boat outing. Observing them is more useful than a photograph of a sign.
