History
The tower in Mangalia was built in the 1950s, though it looks back to the thirteenth century, when the Genoese held a coastal post here. It is not a medieval ruin lifted from the ground: it is a reconstruction inspired by that presence, meant as a shoreline landmark and as a representative object for the southern town.
It was also used by the army, then restored and passed, in turn, through the care of the navy museums. You find it close to the seafront, a short walk from the centre of Mangalia. If you want context, pair the stop with the Navy Museum in Constanța or with the ruins of Callatis, a few steps away.
