History
Ali-Gazi Pasha raised his mosque in Babadag in the seventeenth century. His tomb stands beside the house of worship, in the town centre, on the route you take anyway if you come to the mosque.
The pasha was an Ottoman administrator in Dobrogea; the building is among the oldest of its kind in Tulcea County that still serves. The thick walls and the low roof read as period work, not as a rebuild of ten years ago. The square around explains why Babadag was an end of the road for armies and merchants.
