History
The name comes from the Celic Dere stream, from Turkish “the little steel brook”. Around 1835-1840, Archimandrite Athanasie Lisavenco and the schemamonk Paisie revived an older monastic settlement, at Telița. After a fire, in 1846 the church dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God and a chapel of Saints Michael and Gabriel were raised.
The later buildings - bodies from 1901, rebuilds after 1916, works in 1926-1932 - belong to architects such as Dobrescu and to painters such as Eftimiu, with ties also toward Clinceni. The feast of the Life-Giving Spring gathers people in spring.
You reach it from Tulcea toward Niculițel-Telița, on a hill road. It is a nuns' monastery: covered clothes, telephone on silent, a candle shop at the gate. It is worth pairing with Cocoș and Saon, in the same northern circuit of Tulcea County.
