History
At Niculițel, the trefoil plan — three apses — gives the name to the church dedicated to Saint Athanasius. It began in the fourteenth century as a court chapel. After 1420, with the Ottoman occupation, it passed through abandonments and rebuildings, including works around 1880.
Ion Barnea researched the walls in the second half of the twentieth century. The restorations of 1976-1980 and the interventions around 2000 stopped the cracking. The interior is small; you look at the thickness of the wall. In the same afternoon you can also see the village palaeo-Christian basilica, another monument, a walk away.
