Opposite Capidava, on the Danube reach at Topalu, a rocky island with an almost round outline rises. From the bank it looks like a stone ring. It has no fitted landing and you cannot reach it on foot: you need a boat from locals or from someone who works the river.
The vegetation is low, the shore is hard, the current shifts the sand from one year to the next. It is a place to stop for an hour, photograph the fortress on the bank, and be quiet. It is not a picnic beach and it is not signed for tourists.
Ask at Capidava or Topalu who goes out on the water. Wear a life vest, avoid a strong wind, and do not stay after sunset. In winter the Danube is another story: leave the island for the warm season.
