History
On the cliff, Corneliu Medrea’s group shows fishermen at work: bent bodies, nets, effort. It is not a hero on horseback. It is a twentieth-century sculpture that ties the city to the shore trade, without a speech.
You see it at once, on the promenade route. Afternoon light brings out the muscles and the folds; at noon it is flat. Children sometimes climb on the plinth, though it is not a playground.
Put it in a walk between the Casino and the beaches. In winter you have room to stand; in July you pass among people and photograph it from a side step.
