History
The stone tower beside Tomis Tourist Harbour was raised in 1860, to plans by Artin Aslan, at a time when Constanța was putting its coastal signals in order. The name points to the Genoese merchants of the Middle Ages, not to the team that built the lighthouse: the construction is late Ottoman, nineteenth century.
You catch it on the seafront walk, between the Casino and the leisure harbour. You do not climb it as you would a museum; you sit below, on the wall, and watch the light change on the Black Sea. Evening is a good meeting place, morning is freer for photographs without a crowd.
