History
In Constanța Harbour, on Berth 0, the 1909 stone tower rises 13 metres, some 22 above the sea. It was named Carol I and held the signal for ships entering the basin, in an age when the king tied his name to the great works of the shore, from Cernavodă to here.
It is inside the port precinct, so do not go onto the berth without right. You see it from the Casino seafront and from some viewpoints on the peninsula. After restoration, the silhouette is clean, cream-white, easy to recognise in the evening, when the lights on the breakwater come on.
