Mircea the Elder International Honour Cemetery
History
Beside the former station at Mircea Vodă are buried more than 8,000 soldiers of the First World War: Romanians, Germans, Russians, Bulgarians, Serbs, Austrians and Poles. Many had stood on opposite fronts in 1916-1917, on the same fields.
The Cult of Heroes Society organised the cemetery after the war, with the support of Queen Marie. There is also a chapel dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord. Walk slowly, read the inscriptions, put the phone down: the paths show how mixed the Dobrogea front was.
