History

In the Viile Noi neighbourhood, the church on the street that leads toward Medeea was raised in 1935 by the German community, with Gothic lines — a sharp tower, high windows, a plan different from the Orthodox churches around. In 1940, after the Evangelicals left, the building passed to the Romanian Orthodox Church and received the dedication of Saint Elijah.

The Second World War left traces; the serious repairs came late, in 1998–2000. Inside, the services keep the rhythm of a neighbourhood parish, not of a centre attraction.

If you are around Viile Noi on a Sunday, you can go in quietly. Otherwise the façade and the tower read well from the pavement, especially if you are interested in how the neighbourhoods changed after 1940.
