History
Between 1905 and 1911, in the centre of Constanța, the church with the dedication of the Dormition of the Mother of God was built, for a Romanian parish that was growing with the port city. The plan is that of an urban church: clear volumes, towers, an interior chromatic that reads well on clear days.
It is not a cathedral and not a skete. It is the place where whole neighbourhoods were baptised and married before seaside tourism filled the summer. The painting and furniture have layers; not all you see is from 1911.
Go in between services, stay ten minutes, step back into the noise of the centre. If you are doing a church route, put it on the list beside Saint George and Constantine and Helen, not in their place.
