History
Vasile Pârvan (b. 1882) opened, after 1907, the excavations that brought Histria to light, took up Callatis and Tropaeum again, and read Tomis otherwise than from books. The bust in Constanța, worked by Ion Irimescu in 1957, stands on the route of Boulevard Ferdinand to Răscoala Street, in the city's civic fabric, not on the seafront.
It is a two-minute stop, good to tie to a museum visit or, if you have a day, to a run out to Histria: there you understand why his head was set in bronze here. Do not climb the plinth; photograph from pavement level.
