Mahmudia stands on the Sfântu Gheorghe branch, south-east of Tulcea. It is one of the land gateways to the Delta, before the roads scatter.
From here you reach Murighiol, Halmyris, and further by water. Vessel timetables belong to the operator — they thin out in autumn. Ask in Tulcea.
