When to visit Dobrogea
Dobrogea has four sides and they do not coincide with the resort calendar. The coast is one story, the Delta another, Măcinul a third, the steppe sites a fourth. The seasons below are indicative. Specific events - festival, patron saint, contest edition - appear only if they are verified, on the events page.
Spring
March–May is the season when Măcinul and the steppe deserve the first stop: the Dobrogean peony blooms in protected areas, without publishing GPS for rare clumps. Histria is cool, and Delta wakes up before the wave of mosquitoes. The north wind still cuts on the cliff. Take an extra layer, even if the sun is lying.
Summer
The coast and the Delta hold the scene. Outdoor sites require water, a hat and a morning start - after 11 o'clock the stone at Tropaeum or Histria is a heat trap. Book the ship and accommodation in advance. Urban beaches are full; May 2, Vama, Sulina and Sfântu Gheorghe have a different rhythm, but the same sun.
Autumn
September-November is, for many, the best season: the sea water still holds the warmth at the beginning, the birds fly over the Via Pontica, the vineyards of Murfatlar and Ostrov are harvested, and the museums are empty. After September 15, we treat the coast as a bathing season - cliff, city, site, no urge to bathe.
Winter
The coastline calms down. Many guesthouses in the Delta close or have short hours - book in advance, don't rely on "it's open, it's a quiet winter". The county museums, the empty seafront, a soup and a walk on the wind make a two-day getaway. Check the official source of each goal, in the winter the schedule tightens.
What we don't schedule here
We don't make up the date of the Festival from... and we don't copy old posters. If an edition is announced, you can see it in Events, with source. If it's not announced, we write at most "usually in [month]" on the event sheet, not an exact date on this guide.
How do you choose the month?
Family and children: May–June or September. Birdwatching: April–May and September–October. Steppe sites: April–May and October. Delta without heatwave: May and September. City winter: any weekend with bearable wind and an open museum.
