Dobrogea in winter
The coast is quiet, the wind is the main character, and many Delta guesthouses close. A Dobrogean winter is for towns, museums and the seafront, not an empty beach as a "local secret". Book ahead. Check the reduced hours of the sites.
What stays open
The county museums, some centre restaurants, the stations, the churches, the mosques after the community's etiquette. Open-air sites can be visited when the manager keeps them open - gravel, mud, wind, short daylight.
What is empty, usefully
The Constanța, Eforie and Mangalia seafronts. The Tulcea promenade. Mamaia out of season is a wind-blown spit, good for walking, bad for waiting on a kiosk. The winter seafront guide has three short routes.
The Delta
Do not count on a daily boat and a house with the lights on. Phone. If you catch a window of clear frost, the light is superb and the infrastructure is thin. Cash, a coat, a plan B in Tulcea.
The road
The A2 and DN22 hold, but steppe blizzards close them now and then. Check CNAIR, not a group. The vignette is still required. Off-season, coastal minibuses thin out.
Winter kit
A wind jacket, a thermal layer, gloves, a dry pair of socks, a thermos. The seafront is slippery. Măcin in winter is for people who know the path, not a spontaneous weekend idea.
