Birdwatching in the Delta
The Danube Delta and the northern coast lie on the Via Pontica, one of Europe's great migration corridors. Spring and autumn flocks pass; in the summer pelicans, egrets, heavy heat and mosquitoes remain. We do not publish nest coordinates. You use authorized ARBDD guides and distance, not a pin from the nets.
When it's worth it
April–May and September–October are the transit months. In the summer you see pond species, but the light is harsh and the colonies must be left alone. In the winter, in the frost, winterers remain on the gloss - and very little infrastructure to visit.
Where, no fragile coordinates
Tulcea is the gateway: science museum, then a race on the arm or a day at Crișan / Maliuc if you catch the ship. Grindurile, Letea and Caraorman are made with ARBDD rules, often with a guide. Razim–Sinoe, Jurilovca and Enisala keep saltwater shorebirds, visible from public roads.
RULES Pursuant
Distance. No drone over colonies. No food. No leaving the trail or the boat "to be closer". Binoculars take the place of steps. If a local guide says stop, you stop - he responds to the area, you don't.
Equipment
Binoculars, field guide or offline app, windbreaker, discreet color, water, patience. The telephoto lens does not excuse the closeness. In the boat, water cover for bottle and phone.
Via Pontica is not a track
It's a bird corridor, not a marked bike lane. EuroVelo 6 follows the Danube and is another guide. Do not confuse observation with a speed tour on the pier.
Ethics of photography
The photographer's guide details the golden hour and public spots. Only one rule remains here: a published nest photo with location can break the series. We don't; neither should you.
