History
On the esplanade of the House of Culture, Marius Butunoiu placed in 1985 a group for the soldiers of 1877–1878. On the plinth stand the names Plevna, Grivița, Rahova, Smârdan: the battles through which Romania came out from under the Ottoman Empire.
It is public-square bronze, visible, without asking for a ticket. On 9 May and on army days flowers are laid; otherwise it is a five-minute stop between events and the bus.
Read the place-names on the plinth, then, if you have time, link them to a map of the war. Children understand better when you tell them they are places, not metaphors.
