History
On Alexandru Lăpușneanu Boulevard, opposite “Andrei Șaguna” University (no. 13), stands a monument that links Constanța to nineteenth-century Transylvania. Metropolitan Andrei Șaguna was the hierarch who pushed school, print and the rights of Romanians beyond the Carpathians; the campus here took his name, and the statue came as a late recognition, in the 2000s.
The work, signed by the sculptor Dup Darie, was placed in 2006, after an initiative started around 2000. It is worth a short stop if you are already on Lăpușneanu: you read the plaque, make the link with the university behind, and go on through the neighbourhood, without a detour.
