History
In the perimeter of old Tomis there remains a spectacle building from the second and third centuries: stone, a semicircular plan, seats cut in the slope. Here the inhabitants gathered for combats and performances, as happened in any Roman city with pretensions.
Do not expect a Colosseum. You see steps, retaining walls and an arena pit read by archaeologists, not a reconstruction with new stands. It is worth a guide or at least a plan, otherwise you pass the stones without understanding the scale.
Tie the stop to the Roman mosaic building and to the walls on the seafront. In a morning you can cover the ancient core without a taxi, if you can take the climbs of the peninsula.
