A day in Tulcea
Ideal before or after a boat. The town is the gate, not the Delta destination - and it still deserves a day, not just a water station. Check the boat timetable first, then walk. Do not force a branch village into the same afternoon.
Harbour and promenade
The quay, the wind, the posted timetable. The Tulcea walk links the harbour to the hill. The Independence Monument and the hillside park hold the sunset. Aegyssus, if you care about the fortress, is a climb, not a terrace.
Museums
The Delta is better understood from a natural-science museum than from a rushed two-hour canal tour. Off-season, the museum is often more predictable than the boat.
A short trip
If time remains and you have a ticket, a few-hour loop on the water beats a dash to Mila 23 and back. The two-day guide based in Tulcea splits the town from the Delta on honest hours.
Evening
If the boat is tomorrow, stay in Tulcea. A harbour restaurant, a walk, sleep. Not "we'll still catch a village".
Without a car
The train this far is rarer than the Constanța one. The bus station and the harbour are the town's logic. A wheeled suitcase on cobbles is a punishment - a backpack.
