A day in Mangalia
A compact town. The walls of Callatis stand among hotels. A day on foot holds the fortress, the museum, the mosque and the marina. 2 Mai and Vama are a short run — not an afternoon add-on if you also want the museum.
Fortress and museum
Callatis is visible in the centre, not on a hill. The museum holds the papyrus and the Hellenistic collection, when it is open — check the listing. Walk Callatis ties the pines together.
Esmahan Sultan Mosque
The oldest mosque still standing in the country, built in part from fortress stone. House-of-worship etiquette. It is not “the sight after ice cream”; it is a place of prayer that receives respectful guests.
Harbour and promenade
The marina, a walk, a jacket off-season. The winter promenade guide has a loop from here. Do not enter working areas.
Southward
2 Mai and Vama Veche deserve a half-day of their own, especially in summer. The marine protected area has rules. The border is real, not a backdrop.
Train
End of the line from Constanța. A weekend without a car closes well here, not at a steppe site with no return service.
