The hills of Măcin, in full
At the foot of the Măcin Mountains lie the hills that the locals know by their names: Pricopan, Țuțuiatu, Greci. The granite comes to the surface, the orchards and vineyards cover the slopes, and from the ridges you can see the Danube with the Braila ponds.
The village of Greci, called the "little Italy" of Dobrogea, is home to the descendants of the stonemasons who came from Friuli to work the granite quarries. The Catholic church and preserved customs give the village a unique character in the region.
The hills of Măcin are the easy gateway to the National Park: the routes to Țuțuiatu and Pricopan can be covered in one day, without mountain equipment, but with a spectacular panorama.
At the foot, the town Măcin preserves the remains of the Roman fort Arrubium, and the Danube flows a few kilometers away, by ferry to Brăila.
