History
Vasile Vasiliu-Falti, a sculptor from Fălticeni (a relative of the actor Grigore Vasiliu Birlic, with years of studio in Paris), modelled in bronze a seal that Constanța placed in 1963 beside Hotel Perla in Mamaia. The resort was then filling with decorative works, and marine animals suited the beach.
The artist died in 1988; after 2000 the piece was moved from its first place, together with the remakes in Mamaia. Look for it on the green spaces of the resort, not necessarily at Perla: the bronze is compact, easy to recognize by the animal’s silhouette, not by a monumental plinth.
It is a stop of a few minutes, good to link with a walk on the cliff, not with a special detour.
