History
Near Topolog, in Tulcea, the wood stands away from the beaten routes of the Delta. You arrive on local roads, then on paths. Oaks and ashes hold dense shade; the soil is dry, typical of the plateau, not marshy.
You will not find a cabin, a resort map or a kiosk. You gain quiet, autumn mushrooms if you know the species, and a walk in which you hear only the wind. Spring is the pleasantest; in July mosquitoes and ticks call for long trousers.
Ask in the village for the entrance used by locals. Do not stray into recently cut parcels and do not count on a spring. Turn back before dusk: the way out is easily lost among the strips.
