History
The Church of the Protection of the Mother of God (Pokrov) in Jurilovca is the house of worship of the Old Believer community — the Lipovans who made the village one of Dobruja’s lagoon ports. The architecture and the service belong to a tradition that came from the north, not from Tomis.
Jurilovca remains a fishing village: boats, fish stations, the road toward Argamum and Doloșman. The church is visited in modest dress, in silence, outside services if you are not invited. It is not a costume museum; it is a living church.
For a short tour: Pokrov, the harbour, then Cape Doloșman at sunset. If you want context, read about the Lipovans before you photograph the icons.
