History
At Agighiol, in the commune of Valea Nucarilor, the hills near Tulcea hide a settlement where Getae and Greeks lived side by side. On the ground you see undulations, potsherds and traces of fortification rather than whole walls. The site is read with a guide or after a visit to the museum.
The area is also known for the Getic princely tomb, with silver pieces that reached collections. The settlement itself shows exchange of objects, ways of living, and a life at the contact between the Pontic world and the local one, not a picture-book fortress.
You arrive from Tulcea toward Valea Nucarilor, then ask in the village for the archaeological point. Do not dig and do not take sherds. If you want objects and context, go to the museums in Tulcea before or after the walk.
