Murfatlar
Wine, chalk, rock-hewn chapels at Basarabi.

Murfatlar, in full
Murfatlar stands on chalk hills between Constanța and Medgidia. Sun and limestone make the wine different from the rest of the country. The Romans left presses and amphorae; the wine estate dates from 1907.
Beside the town, in the former quarry, are the Basarabi chapels: cells carved in chalk, with runes, Glagolitic, and Cyrillic on the same walls.
Chalk is fragile. Access to the complex is controlled. We do not publish a schedule we have not verified this year.
