History
On Boulevard Tomis, in the park in front of the “Oleg Danovski” National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Constantin Baraschi (1902-1966) set in 1963 a faun and a nymph on a plinth surrounded by a small basin of water.
The group is to be read in passing, at eye level, not from a step of triumph. When the basin is full, the reflection changes the silhouettes; when it is empty, only the stone and the shade of the park trees remain.
It is a five-minute stop between a piece at the theatre and a coffee on Tomis. If you want context, Baraschi did much public sculpture in the 1950s and 1960s; here is one of his less “official” pieces in theme.
